DAP's Tony Pua has been caught lying to the public again. He says there is no basis for the 20sen increase in RON95 price to RM2.30 as international crude prices fallen slightly in the month of January and the ringgit not being any worse against the US dollaHe said Brent crude prices went up from US$51.48 to US$56.73 in December 2016. “However, Malaysians cannot understand why the prices were increased for February when the Brent crude price actually declined slightly in January to approximately US$55.86,He further accused that this drastic increase looked like a way for the government to earn more revenue. While Tony Pua is correct that on average, the Ringgit was little changed against the USD in January 2017 (RM4.45955) compared to Dec 2016 (average RM4.46145) , he should understand that you cannot pump CRUDE OIL into your car.The pricing of our RON95 has ALWAYS been based on the average of the refined product MOGAS 95 out of Singapore. As you can see from the graph, the AVERAGE price of MOGAS95 in Dec 2016 (steadily rising from USD62 to USD69 per barrel) was lower than the average price in Jan 2016 (consistently between USD69 to USD70 per barrel). That is why the price of RON95 set for Feb 2017 (set based on Jan 2017 average prices) is higher compared to Jan 2017 (set based on Dec 2016 average prices). While RM2.30 per liter may sound high but this was also the price in Oct and Nov 2014 and not as high as what it was in 2008 when it was RM2.62 for RON92.We are still among the top 15 cheapest petrol in the world and the cheapest in ASEAN (except Brunei) - which is certainly unusual since Malaysia has become a net oil importing country due to explosion in car population locally. It is important to note that the price is now floating based on market prices and Malaysians need to understand that prices will go up and down based on the refined prices in Singapore. This is why Malaysia is working fast to build our own refining capacity in Pengerang and why we are investing a lot in public transport.Tony Pua knows that the pricing is based on refined product (not crude oil) and the price is now floating but he deliberately wants to lie and fool the people by accusing the govt of trying to earn revenue by increasing petrol prices by 20sen.That is why Tony Pua did not come out to praise the govt or accusse govt of bribing the people when RON95 prices dropped by 70sen from RM2.30 to RM1.60 early last year.DAP people like to lie a lot - all in the name of fooling the people to incite hate.---
