Ambiga not fit to lead, says senior PAS leader
KUALA LUMPUR: A senior PAS leader hit out at Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga saying she is not fit to lead the movement because of her ties with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community,
PAS central committee member Nasharudin Mat Isa said PAS should instead take the lead in the Bersih 3.0 demonstration planned for Saturday.
“There is a fatwa against homosexuality, saying that homosexuals are not even fit to be dined with. If we follow the fatwa, then yes, Ambiga should definitely not lead the Bersih 2.0 movement or the demonstration,” he told reporters after speaking at an anti-LGBT forum in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia here yesterday.
Ambiga was supposed to have opened a sexuality rights workshop Seksualiti Merdeka last year, which was called off following public outcry.
“Political parties should helm the demonstration scheduled to be held at Dataran Merdeka,” said Nasharudin, who was the PAS deputy president until last year.

(Bernama) - Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today Bersih 3.0 co-chairman S Ambiga and the opposition must take responsibility for allowing a peaceful gathering in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to turn violent.
Describing what happened as regrettable, he said Ambiga, as the main organiser of the rally, must also face the law for the resulting damage to property and policemen being injured.
“Yesterday’s riots were uncalled for. The opposition must be held responsible for that.

The rally was to feature only speeches from Ambiga, co-chairman A Samad Said and songs, says Bersih.
(Free Malaysia Today) - Election watchdog Bersih 3.0 has no control over what politicians say at its public events, its co-chairman S Ambiga said.
“We did not know that they [opposition] leaders were going to speak. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim came up and spoke to the crowd. There were groups in the crowd which wanted to hear the opposition leaders speak.
“I cannot control what they say,” she said amidst reports that opposition leaders had incited the crowd to breach the barriers at Dataran Merdeka during the Bersih 3.0 rally yesterday.
