Sinchew had an interview with Tun Daim Zainuddin on March 15 recently.
In his interview, he said UMNO Umno does not seem to understand that BN needs support from all races to win in urban seat because the need of urbanites are the same but UMNO thought the Malays would support them.
Daim said it is ambitious to win back 2/3 but if Najib fails to do better than his predecessor in the GE, Umno will want him out even though he is already doing better than his predecessor.
He suggested that PM should focus on East Malaysia and also pay attention to the seats that lost to close margin in last GE.
Daim said BN can win back Kedah and Selangor if it can get a leader who is acceptable by the people and to ensure that the candidate will not be sabotaged by own members.
However, he said it would not be easy for BN to defend Perak because of the coup and people will be emotional over it.
Daim said 308 tsunami will not repeat in the coming GE because of pendulum effect. THey did badly in 2008 because UMNO came out too arrogant from the earlier 2004 GE victory.
Daim view MCA's poor performance in the last GE was due to fielding new candidates without consulting its members and that caused to boycott their own candidates.
He said if MCA were to repeat the same mistake, it will be game over.
Daim view the NFC issue to be more detrimental than Lynas to BN because everyone knows about it even voters from Kampung know how valuable a cow is. Hence, the cow issue must be handled well.
He felt that Lynas issue will not affect other states.
